Day 6

Subject: You won't want to hear this, [firstname].

Hi [firstname],

With all we've discussed so far, you should now be raring to go – ready to move your inner gearshift from Park or Neutral into Drive, put your foot on the gas and head on down the highway to achieving your goal.

But I've got some bad news for you…

Things won't always go smoothly!

You're going to encounter obstacles along the way. Some of the obstacles are going to be easy to get around. Others are going to be more difficult. One or two will be like hitting a brick wall head on, and will require a total rethink.

The thing is: By working backwards from your goal to now, you can factor in a “plan B” anytime you want. So if one route to your goal doesn't work, you can always figure out a new route. As long as you keep sight of your goal you'll be fine in the end.

Another thing you should be aware of is (when it comes to achieving your goal) some people will WANT you to give up.

Seriously!

Oftentimes people close to you won't want you to reach your goal for fear you'll change; that success will go to your head and you won't be the same person anymore. Others lack the courage you have. Secretly, they really want the same thing you want, but they're too afraid to go get it. If you get discouraged and give up, it makes them feel better for not trying.

When it comes to the first group of people, you'll need to go out of your way to reassure them that you'll still be the same [firstname] they know and love, regardless of what happens.

With the second, it's best to distribute information on a strictly “need to know” basis. Tell them about your successes, but keep setbacks to yourself. That way, they won't be able to blow-up your failures out of all proportion and undermine your confidence.

Warmly,

[Your Name]
